Application of Digital Technologies

£7m is available for highly innovative collaborative research in the application of digital technologies - for creation, preservation, interaction, personalisation and increasing the competitive advantage of creative industry products, services and experiences.  

The TSB is looking for projects that will lead to solutions that can be deployed across businesses, platforms, sectors or distribution channels.  

Call Targets : 

  • content industries - computer games developers/publishers, video, film, TV, radio, music, publishing, rich media
  • product and fashion design
  • architecture and interior design
  • new and developing sectors and services - user generated content, virtual worlds, pervasive media, context aware and location based services
  • training and education - serious games
  • content owners
  • broadcast, broadband and telecommunication providers
  • culture, visitor attractions, events and tourism
  • advertising, design services, marketing and communications

Call Scope :

  • reducing production costs or time to market of digital content, digital products, design and other services
  • increasing quality or added value to design and digital content products
  • content discovery
  • storing and preserving virtual or web based experiences
  • customisation and personalisation of digital content and physical products
  • production techniques for new content delivery mechanisms and media
  • tools and technologies to enhance experience or increase interaction 
  • evaluating consumer engagement
  • developing new commercial models to enable business to benefit form technology driven opportunities
  • understanding user response to requirements for and modes of engagement with technology inspired innovation

Competition opens : 30 January 2008

Optional Expression of Interest deadline: 4 April 2008 (feedback by 14 April)

Compulsory Expression of Interest : 9 May 2008 (feedback by 19 May)

Deadline for full application : 12 June 2008

Decision to applicants : 24 July 2008

 

Fast Track Collaborative R&D Projects

Call Scope

The normal business activities of applicants must fall under one of the 13 subsectors that make up the creative industries:

  • art & antiques
  • architecture
  • design
  • music
  • computer games & video
  • film
  • advertising
  • TV & radio
  • publishing
  • performing arts
  • crafts
  • software
  • designer fashion

Proposals must focus on developing new products, processes, business models, capabilities and services that could be exploited within 2-5 years of project completion.  Awards will be up to £50k.

Lead applicant : must be an SME (collaborating partners can be an academic or a larger company)

Budget : £1.5m (funding of 50% of the total value of the project)

Deadline: monthly June 16th / July 21/ August 18 / September 15 / October 10 / November 17

 

 

Feasibility Projects

Scope

Available to SMEs to access external expertise to help them explore novel ideas that are enabled by technology or have a technology component.  The grant is to be used to identify and work with potential partners to develop an early demonstrator, proof of principle to a detailed product development proposal. Awards will be up to £15k
